51st Rattlesnake Rodeo...

My hometown had it's 51st Rattlesnake Rodeo this past weekend. No, I didn't get to go but I snagged a few pictures from our local papers facebook page...and yes, I have eaten fried rattlesnake.

the winner is the first one who reaches the outer circle (the snakes have sponsors)

For most of it's years it was held on the first full weekend in March...but after a couple of years (where it was moved to the Covington County fairgrounds in Andalusia)because of weather that was wet or cold, they moved it back to Opp and changed the date to the first full weekend in April. Last year it was toward the end of March because of Easter.

Take care,

Sheila

  2. Hey Sheila, great entry. Do these guys keep their rattlers at home or catch a new one every year. There are some BIG dudes there. I knew they did that in several places in Texas, didn't know there were enough rattlers in Alabam to catch.

Looks like a fun time. I have never eaten rattler. I plan to one day, the next one I run into in the mts. gets skinned and put on a spit.

Love from Michigan, the last post from here we hope.

  3. Hey Sheila, I like the critters below better. I shall never let a snake past my lips. It is a good entry and really interesting. It still makes my skin crawl. It has been raining here all day.

  5. While they were singing the National Anthem they had a large plane to fly over with smoke coming out from both sides. It flew over the house and made two rounds. Would have took a picture but didn't have my camera outside with me. Take care, love you, mom.

  6. Yukk, I could never bring myself to eat rattlesnakes. I have seen quite a few down on the farm where we used to live and killed some but not to eat LOL. Thanks for the interesting entry. Helen
