Covington Manor
Hello Everyone,
We are all good here.
This picture is an old building in my hometown. It was a nursing home when I was young. The youth at our church sang there one Christmas and afterward we took gifts around to the residents. I believe they were baskets, but I don't remember what was in them.
Before it was a nursing home it was a hotel. Mom will have to comment with info on that or if it had a life other than that. They had a haunted house in it at Halloween, not this past year, but I went the two years before that, Mom even went the first time. The last time I went, as we were standing in line, I made up stories of 'real' ghosts that were in there. Told them not to open certain doors, etc.
As you can see, they are tearing it down. Putting up some kind of Destin, FL style shops. I can't imagine that in such a small town, but I hope it goes well. Hate to see it go though.
Ok, on to other things...
I forgot to mention the exercise bike in my last entry. We got it put together Sunday evening. I fixed a place to put it in the bedroom. So I got exercise helping put it together and then the next day moving it into the bedroom...So right now I'm following Shirl's method of exercising...ha. Hubby hasn't used it yet either. But we will, just got to work up to it.
I'll go now,
take care,
Sheila
I get so upset when people tear down part of a town's history.
ReplyDeleteI alway think why don't they just
renovate or remodel and use the same building. It is a beautiful
building. Lots of memories going
down the drain.
Shirl
Hi, they have it tore down now and the ground leveled. I think they have the old telephone and Cash and Carry building down they were working on it the last time I went by going to the bank. I will see if I can get some pictures. The older part of the Opp Mill is down I think they plan to leave the new weave shop building.
ReplyDeleteI think it was the Covington Hotel first , but it was a nursing home when we moved here. I think it will look nice when they get it all completed. Take care, love you, mom
Progress they say? Sometimes it is and sometimes it ain't. With all the reports of non-sales at the Destin,Fla type malls, it doesn't look like they could build more, but they can.
ReplyDeleteGlad the bike is together, now take a ride somewhere. LOL It is a very good way to exercise, go ahead, set up a schedule and stick with it. That was a good idea, and still is. Hand tuff!
Jack
Hello Miss Sheila,
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why they want to tear such beautiful old building down to build another ugly shopping center.
God Bless
Randy
Hey Sheila, if you and hubby eat every day steak, baked pot, got to stop there , I have not even had breakfast and I could eat a steak. I know I won't be using a exercise bike. UnusuaL TO HEAR OF NEW BUILDING IN THIS ECONOMY AND SUCH A SHAME TO TEAR DOWN old buildings that good memories are in. Lucy
