Okay Lucy, this is for you. Scup'lins...southern slang...also known as scuppernongs or muscadines. I have been eating both kind. The bronze scuppernongs is what I have (look kind of green here). I had a dark one but it never made any and eventually gave up the ghost. They don't taste like a regular grape, and I don't eat the skin, it is too thick, some people might I don't know. But I suck the inside of the skin to get all the sweet goodness...ha. But when I eat too many, they make my back teeth sharp (I don't know if that is a universal saying, but basically makes my teeth sensitive, not to heat or cold, but when chewing). But it doesn't stop me from eating them...got to get them while I can.

Thanks for stopping by,
Sheila
You make my mouth water!! I love the green ones they seem to be much sweeter, or my friends did. Sherry found a wild vine behind Shirls of Muscadines, purple, wild.
ReplyDeleteI have wondered if I keep pruning them if they will produce larger muscadines? I am sure before I get back Shirl will already have them fermenting! LOL
I love'em (Not as good as Tomatoes) but I love em. LOL

Humm that is interesting. Never heard of them but then I don't care for fruit much and wish I did.
ReplyDeleteOurs are beginning to get ripe. I have to watch how many I eat, me being a diabetic. Those things sure are good though. I spit the hull and seed with it's jelly bag out though. Ours are the bronze color but the last few years there have been some of those black kind mixed in. Guess the birds brought the seeds in. Helen
ReplyDeleteI just don't know about them. They look like olives in the bowl!! I like green grapes and sweet red grapes but they don't look like that. You southerners do eat different. Just reminded me that I have some nice red grapes in the fridge. Think I will have a few.
