Trip to Vegas...1990

Vegas-notice the McDonald's sign
it looked like Christmas with all the lights
everywhere.
Visiting Hoover Dam while we were in
Las Vegas.

Hello Everyone,

Here it is Friday again. It came quick with three days vacation at the beginning of the week...ha.
For the ones that might not know, Mobile celebrates Mardi Gras, they say this is were Mardi Gras began...before New Orleans. Since I wasn't born or raised here I just have to take their word for it.
Hubby will head out in the morning to play golf. Thank you for the prayers for my friend, she finally got results back from her tests and the mass was benign. My In-laws friend had a stroke and she is slowly making improvements but she has a long road ahead. Thanks for the prayers for her too.

Ok, I started this Friday night but I didn't finish it until today. Hubby played golf and finished up about 11:00 am. Just before the skies opened up and the rain poured.

When I was eight months pregnant with my first child, I was able to go with my Husband ''R" on a business trip to Las Vegas. Everything seemed to be lit up with lights. I remember thinking it looked like Christmas year round. One morning while he was working, I decided to walk up the hill from our hotel to look around at the gift shops. I would not advise walking uphill when you are eight months pregnant...It wore me out...ha. But I rested up before I headed back, at least it was downhill this time. This was mid-August 1990. I also took a picture in the 'Golden Nugget' casino and was quickly told I could not take pictures in there. I did take one more without the flash. I lived dangerously didn't I...ha.

'Til next time,
take care,
Sheila

Mardi gras...

Hello Everyone,

We are enjoying the girls' school holiday. Staying up late, going out around midnight Sunday and getting pancakes at Whataburger. 'C's friend came over Monday evening and spent the night. I watched the Mardi Gras parades that were on TV today while I balanced our checkbook and set up bills to pay online. 'J' and I are waiting now for our soap opera to come on. It was postponed because of the parades.

As for the popcorn popper, it's not really that hard to clean. You just have to get out all the left over popcorn. The instructions tell you to put water in the popper (where you put the popcorn)and turn it on. It steams up the inside of the plexiglass and you can clean it that way. I run it through twice. You can unplug the power from the popper and take it out and wash it also. I do it that way sometimes too. But it's still easier to wash the bucket from the movie theater...ha. Especially while it is just 50 cents to refill.

'til next time,
take care,
Sheila

Friday Fun...

Hello Everyone,

I finally decided to get rid of the snow on my blog...ha. If you noticed the new picture in my profile, that is my niece bent over in a Texas field of bluebonnets. The other is my niece and nephew at a restaurant in San Antonio, I think it was at the riverwalk. My nephew's balloon reads 'call 911 I've been kidnapped' and my niece's reads ' I (heart) boys'.

Well Hubby had to fly to Memphis for the day, for business, on Friday. He made it there and back okay. My daughter 'J' and I went to the movie Friday to see 'Madea goes to jail'. We tried to get daughter 'C' to go, but we couldn't, she wasn't interested...ha. We went to the movie theater back before Christmas, just to get some popcorn. I bought a large bucket that you can refill until Dec. of this year and it only costs 50 cents per refill. So I bought two large sodas and got the bucket refilled. Then when the movie was over I dumped the little bit of popcorn that was left into the open trash can they had and had it filled up again and we have eaten on that last night and today. I put a cover on it when I got home so it wouldn't get stale. The sad thing is we have a popcorn popper like this:

But this isn't as easy to clean as a bucket...

I hope everyone has a great weekend. The girls are out of school until Thursday. They get Monday for President's day (a week later than everyone else) and Tuesday and Wednesday for Mardi Gras. They got a whole week when we first moved here.

Take care,

Sheila

Ooh la la...

Hello Everyone,

Nothing much happening around here. The only thing, "C" had to cook something today for French class. Yes, you read that right, I didn't know learning a language required home cooking...ha. She initially wanted to cook this elaborate recipe but it was too much for a school night. Maybe one weekend she can try it. But she cooked something called ' Clafoutis Bourguignon'. You can search the name and find the recipe on frenchselections.com or type the name and search images for a picture. It can be made with fresh cherries, apples or pears. We chose apples since they had no cherries at the grocery store. She has to use poster board to put pictures of ingredients and finished product and label it in French.
It looks good so maybe it will taste good too. She has to take it to school so we can't have any :(
If she likes it we'll make another one. Probably try it with cherries when they have some in the store.

Mom, I was afraid it was going to turn out Jill wasn't Katherine's daughter...ha.

I'll go now,
Take care,
Sheila

Happy Valentine's Day

I hope everyone enjoyed their day...
I thought I'd share one of the sweet cards I received...

'Now,

just in time for Valentine's Day

and in the privacy of your own home,

you can have that lip-tingling,

light-headed,

Heavy-breathing feeling...

Just blow this up about eleven times,

and have a Happy Valentine's Day!!'

Lol, I'll share my balloon with my hubby so he can enjoy the feeling too...ha.

Until next time,

Take care,

Sheila

Busy day today...

Well, I hope everyone had a good day today.

'C' had and orthodontist appointment today and 'J' had a neurologist appointment. She has been going to a neurologist since 9th grade. She has migraines, she gets them during the night and has no symptoms beforehand that tells one is coming. So a lot of the medicine like Imitrex doesn't work. Last school year was her worst, getting them two then three times a week. But she has only had a few since April and we are thankful for that.

After the orthodontist, we went to Office Max,'C' wanted the Rosetta Stone software that teaches french. Couldn't find it so we went to Target. Didn't have it there either, so she got her a new mouse instead. I got the book 'A tree grows in Brooklyn'. No, I've never read it before, I don't know why. But it will be awhile, I have a few books ahead of it.

Time to go,
Take care,
Sheila

The healing touch...

Hello Everyone,

Hubby finally made it to the doctor on Monday morning. You might be eating while you read this so I won't go into the gory details of what they got out of his ear. But after reporting that he 'almost came off the table' from the pain, it was alot better on the drive back to work and he could hear from it again. He has drops to put in it for about 7 days.

Daughter 'J' finished up her antibiotics for her throat yesterday. So it appears everyone is on the road to recovery...until the next time...

Well we have a couple of days in the low 70's, then we'll be in the high 60's for a few days with chances of rain.

Well I'll go now,
Take care,
Sheila

ears to you... :)

Hello Everyone,

Not much happening, Hubby has an earache. I made him a doctor's appointment on Wednesday. I called him at work to remind him and he asked me to move it to Thursday. Too much going on at work and he couldn't leave. So I made it for the same time Thursday, he calls a little before 1pm, 'can't make it see if I can get in Friday'. I didn't think he would be able too because they close at noon on Friday's, and alas, the next available is Monday morning, maybe he will make that one. He says it hasn't gotten worse or better...Men...we love ya, but you can sure try our patience...ha.

Daughter 'J's throat is getting better. Daughter 'C' has been sniffling lately but that seems to be all it is.

It was pretty cold here this week, especially at night, but it will be 60's tomorrow and probably 70 by Monday with a chance of rain Monday and Tuesday. It may get foggy tonight and tomorrow night.

Time to go,
Take care,
Sheila

Time goes by...

Hello Everyone,

Didn't mean to wait this long to post, I guess time just got away from me.

This picture is 'C' in Washington state. She took violin for like two seconds...ha. Well, actually I think it was part of 5th grade. But she didn't like to practice the twenty minutes they were supposed to every night. She also got contacts in 6th grade.

So lets go back a few days...

Hubby played poker again on Friday night and he won more than he lost the last time he played. They don't play 'high-stakes' so he doesn't risk losing much. Also daughter 'J' went to the mall Friday night with friends to look for a prom dress. She was able to find one. She still had a sore throat this weekend so she went to the doctor Monday. She didn't have strep but she did have some kind of throat infection. So she is taking some antibiotics now.

I picked up 'C' from school Monday and we went by and got us both a haircut. She wanted Subway, which is next door to the haircut place, so I got her a sandwich and chips. Hubby got a haircut on Sunday...now I guess it is 'J's turn...ha. Well she can wait til her throat gets better.

Prayers for my friend 'A' who is awaiting test results and for my In-laws friend 'J' who had a stroke last night, will be greatly appreciated.

'Til next time,
Take care,
Sheila
