Phew, what a day...

all bandaged up...
Hi Everyone,
I took Hubby's truck to the window doctor today and got it all healed up.
But it took two trips...
It started like this...
We had one company that was supposed to come to the house and fix it...
but it was raining this morning and our garage is full of stuff so there is no room to pull it in there to be fixed...so they say since it's supposed to rain the rest of the week it will be Monday before they can come...not...
I said never mind I would get someone else. So I called another company that was closer to us, they could get the glass by lunch and I could bring the truck at 1pm. So I go, 30 minutes later they say, 'they sent the wrong glass'...they can have the right glass there by 3pm. Ok, I'll come back after I pick up daughter at school and take her home. They put plastic over the window, and it is plastic that I can see through, very different from the black garbage bag I put over it...ha... and they sent me on my way.
I went back after bringing daughter home from school and in a short while they had it in and ready to go...
I saw our next door neighbor's mother outside later and told her about the break-in, she parks her car outside the garage too. Hubby's going to talk to the homeowners association president about putting a street light in front of our house. They have them everywhere else but us being the last house at the end of the street it's dark at our end. We've had our cast iron mailbox knocked over twice, broke it the first time, but was able to get it fixed. Second time just bent it over at the base and we were able to straighten it.

A sad note, my in-law's friend passed away, she had a second stroke in rehab, then contracted MSRA staph infection. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers.
Enjoy your Thursday,
Sheila

If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

Hello All,

Thanks to Lucy for the Kreativ award. I'm not sure I live up to it yet, but hopefully I'll get better.

Let me go back a few days to Thursday. Hubby was out looking at something inside an airplane, just before he left for the day, and the floorboards were not secured properly. Needless to say he fell through. Luckily he was not injured other than a scraped knee. He got grease on his slacks and a tear in his jacket. Lines and cables kept him from falling further.

Then there was early this morning, around 4:35 am, someone broke the rear side window of his truck, stealing his golf clubs out of the backseat. He ran outside when the alarm went off so he saw the car and at least three guys. Called the police, hope they catch them, but more than likely they will not. But at least no one was hurt, things can be replaced.

Just another bump in the road of life,
Take care,
Sheila

Fans, steaks and Miss M...

Good Evening,

I hope everyone has had a good day. We got the ceiling fan replaced yesterday in my daughter J's room. It was such a pain...I kept the light kit from the old one because we put them on a while after we moved in here...just in case we ever need it.

We did get to grill our steaks, it was raining a little but not to bad. Hubby and I ate leftovers today, J got Arby's and C ate canned pasta. It rained off and on again today too but I think it will be clear tomorrow.

I'll leave you with a picture of my youngest niece...Miss M, she lives in Georgia.

Have a great day,

Sheila

Rain, goulash and gum...

Hello All,

We're all well at this end. It has been raining here since this afternoon. After Hubby got back from golfing we went to the grocery store, yes, you read that right grocery store. We don't go to the grocery store together often...ha. Plus golfing usually wears him out...ha. He wanted to fix what we call goulash. It is real similar to the goulash Paula Dean makes (we saw her make it on her show once), I asked did he know Paula long ago and get her recipe...he says no...ha. We also got some steaks to fix tomorrow, hopefully the rain will have stopped by then.

This next part is in honor of Shirl, http://ncbelmontbelle.blogspot.com/, you can read her story of the gum incident. This was late July of 1993, 'J' would have been three in September. Our extended family was on vacation at the beach in Panama City, Fl. 'J' had been sitting on the couch quietly for awhile. We didn't notice what she was doing. She came over to us because she couldn't open her eye...she had stuck gum to her closed eye and squished it on there so well she couldn't open it...I called around to some doctors office to find out the safest way to get it off...I finally got a nurse who told us to use peanut butter. My brother was the main one who worked the peanut butter in several times until we finally got all the gum off. He took these pics before we got it all off...

I don't think Goo Gone would have worked in this case...
Take care,
Sheila

Thursday...

Hello everyone,

Well , yesterday we had the inspection guy out for our termite bond renewal. Everything's good. Then today we had someone come pick up our old washer. "C" has been taking Graduation exams this week. She already passed the two they gave the first part of the school year. Her sister passed all five in the 10th grade, so I'm sure she will too. As you can tell from the picture 'C' had a ganglion cyst removed from her left hand a little over a year ago. Last night she showed me on the pointer finger of her left hand at the same joint she has another one forming. It's still small so I will probably make her an appointment with the doctor who took the last one out and see if something can be done before it requires surgery.

The way they stitched it looks a little weird, but it healed really well.

Well it may get in the 50's this weekend with a chance of rain.
I didn't want to give the impression that I live in the area of the shooting. My parents live in the town just to the west of Kinston and my in-laws live near Geneva. When we are home visiting we travel through there going back and forth to our parents. It was still to close for comfort with our parents and other family nearby.

Til next time,
Take care,
Sheila

What makes someone do these things?

I'm sure some of you who read Randy's blog know of the terrible tragedy in Alabama yesterday. Plus it has been on the news. Please remember these communities in your prayers. We travel that road when going between my parents and my husband's parents. His parents live near Geneva. Our nephew works at Reliable, where the gunman shot himself. He wasn't at work at the time thank God, I think he had a doctor's appt. May God be with all the family and friends of the people who lost their lives...

Nice, warm Sunday...

Hi Everyone,

Hope you had a nice weekend. It was warm here. I got out today and cut back our mexican heather and cleaned around the lilies that are in the front.

I replaced our washing machine with a Kenmore, we had to buy a new dryer when we lived in Washington state and it is a Kenmore, so at least they are the same brand name again...ha.

This is a picture of a house they are building across from us. The street we live on ends at our house and the road in front of this house is a cul-de-sac. I took this from my front porch. My oldest daughter says it looks like it should be in Florida not here...ha. I do like those type of palm trees. But some of the fronds or leaves are brown from the cold snaps we had.

Til next time,
Take care,
Sheila

It's been one of those days...

Hello Everyone,

I guess my brain cells were misfiring last night. If I wished you a great Thursday in the comments I left, I meant Friday. I guess my brain was still thinking it was Wednesday.

We had a pretty nice day here yesterday, it was around 72 today but it looked a little cloudy.

I got a shock today…my husband text messaged me…he never text messages…ha. He’s just not into technology. He has to use a computer at work for email and such but doesn’t mess with one at home unless he is looking at houses in a certain areas (like when we move) or vehicles. So that isn’t very often.

And my washing machine died today. It has been ailing since before Christmas, but I have managed to use CPR and bring it back a few times. It took its last breath today and I couldn’t revive it this time. Hubby stopped by and picked up a new one on his way home from work…(he has a truck). Now my back is sore from helping move the old one out and the new one in.
R.I.P. my old Maytag...

Well I'll go for now,
take care,
Sheila

We can see...

Hey,

Everything went well at the eye doctor. 'C' had some improvement but it didn't require a change in her contacts. I didn't require anything but the readers I have already been using. So it's all good.

Well it will warm up here to the high 60's tomorrow then around 75 by Friday.

I can't think of much else tonight so I'll go iron the kids clothes for school tomorrow.

later,
Sheila

My First Born...

My First Born.
Loved the way she had her finger on her chin.
Quilt was made by her Dad's Grandma,
His Mom gave us two.

Hello Everyone,

This is the child that went to Vegas in my tummy...ha. She was born Sept. 14, 1990 at 11:22 pm and she weighed 6 lbs 8 oz.
I think I am going to have to learn a new snow dance...the one I have been using just ain't working...ha. At least some in Alabama got some snow. I know all of you that have been getting hit hard with snow and ice storms will be glad when its all over and spring is here.

My youngest daughter and I have an eye doctor appointment in the morning. She goes every year because she wears contacts but it's been two years for me.

Hubby went to Lowes Sunday to pick up a new ceiling fan for my oldest daughters room. She pulled out the chain that works the fan. She likes to sleep with the fan on like her Dad.

Hope everyone has a great day,
Sheila
