Happy day after day after Halloween...

I started this the day after Halloween but didn't get finished. I did end up going back Wednesday and getting my hair trimmed just a little more. I had one spot that wasn't cooperating.

I put some vegetable beef soup in the crock-pot on Thursday. Then I ran out to the store to pick up some candy. Jarin met me there and we took her car by the car wash. We ran by the grocery store while they cleaned it. I wanted to get a couple of pumpkins (real ones I could leave out for fall) but they were out of orange ones. I did get a plug in one and a battery operated one. Came home and got our clown set up outside in the rocking chair. Put some candy in my Halloween bowl and put the scary sounds CD into the CD player. I sat outside in a rocking chair to give out candy and Jarin came out and sat with her scream mask on. We enjoyed it and got a lot of nice comments for our efforts...ha. Startled a few with the spider.

Here's a picture of one side with the skeleton hanging up.

The spider was on the other side. I think I will get some of the fake spider web to put under it next year. It came with some to cover the mechanism but needs more under it.

This is the spider in action.

This is the clown in action.

Hope everyone has a great weekend,

Fall fun...

I finally got a hair cut last Friday. I started to go back by and let him take a tiny bit more off but can't decide whether to or not. My hair just isn't as easy to style as it used to be.

I went to Cr@cker B@rrel over the weekend and while I was there I picked up this little lady.

She is sitting on this table in the entry way with my fall cornucopia and small pumpkins
and assorted fall leaves.

I have a little chair that we got in Eureka Springs, AR that looks like the old timey desks with the chair in front and desk behind. Right now my Halloween fiber optic cat and my light up pumpkin is on it, but I will put the girl scarecrow on it when Halloween is over.

Mine is similar to this, but the hole on the legs
isn't that big and mine has a heart shape cut above it on the legs.
(got this picture off the internet)

I got a flu shot on Monday at the doctor's office. Went with Jarin yesterday to pick up one of her birthday gifts that didn't come out until yesterday...video game. Then we went by Wally world to pick up a few groceries...and though I thought I had missed them this year....there they were...in all their glory...muscadines, scuppernongs, scup'lins...whatever you prefer to call them. Me, I prefer scup'lins. I did get one off of my bushes this year...only one...but my bushes aren't very big yet.

It has turned a bit chilly here...wind blew like crazy yesterday. Hum, wonder when we will get our first snow?
I'm not sure if you'll be able to see it but this is our scary/creepy clown Hubby bought for Halloween.
He is sitting in a chair near the front door for now, but we'll put him outside on Halloween.
(This was taken near the garage door, I was trying to scare Cori)

Mugs, medical and mischief...

Okay, in my last entry, Sandie asked if I had a mug for all holidays...I have the Halloween mug (from St@rbucks) that was shown in my last entry...which I call a fall mug since the jack-a-lanterns are smiling on it...ha. After checking, this is what I found...

from left...I have a winter cup and saucer that my
oldest got me at St@rbucks, it only holds 6 oz. so I've only used it for hot chocolate.
Then 'The View' winter mug I ordered a few years ago, 2009 to be exact. Two summer mugs (showing what's on each side) from Florida. So now I need a spring mug to complete all 4 seasons...ha.

A picture of the saucer and the other side of 'The View' mug. There is also a penguin on the other side of the snowman cup. All my regular blog readers know how much I love snow.

I also have a 4th of July mug. I have a couple of Christmas mugs that I used
to decorate with but they are on the top shelf with a lot of other mugs (with assorted things on them) that we don't drink out of. I also have a couple of Valentine's mugs that I filled
with candy for Hubby in our first years of marriage. Of course I have regular ones
that are favorites too.

The Hubs went out Saturday to run some errands and ended up at the Spirit Halloween store. So now we have a big motion/sound activated jumping spider and a large, creepy clown also motion/sound activated. I set up the spider to scare Jarin when she came down but Rylie (dog) run ahead and she got scared instead...ha, poor baby...but I did get a scare out of Cori... yeah I know, we act like we are 12...ha. I haven't put together the clown yet.

The Chiropractor did some different things on Hubby's back on Monday, so after a quick overnight business trip to Dallas on Tuesday, he thinks it is finally getting better...knock on wood...

Jack, I have an electrical shock thingy I got many years ago for Christmas. I think it was advertised to 'tone muscles', but I figured it worked similar to the one my chiropractor used at the time (mid '90s). I'm sure it is not as strong as the medical ones, but it has worked pretty good over the years.

Roll Tide,
Sheila

Welcome to October...

All is well up this way. Hubby had to go on a business trip this past weekend. The Chiropractor gave him an electrical shock thingy to stick to his upper back/shoulder to help with the pain. The meds the doctor called in for him also helped. (While I was at my parents he did something to his sciatic nerve...while playing golf...so he had meds left from that he would take at night when he got home from work. But that was the only time he would take them.) He started taking the new prescription every 6 hours like it said and it helped him a lot more. He has pain that runs down the back of his arm to his elbow, I think that is what bothers him most. There was golf involved with this business trip so you know he was happy...ha. The top guy from the place where he worked in Alabama was also there.

About the peppers I put up, the peppers I grew were not hot at all...good, but not hot. But the ones that I bought, I know they will be hotter just from handling them.

Now that it is October 1st, I drank coffee out of my pumpkin mug. (seen below) You can't tell in the picture, but it is orange inside. Little scarecrow person is back on the mantle but I don't think I am going to share my mug this year...I also have my Autumn wood-wick candle burning...it crackles like a fire.

I think I am going to get me a couple of scarecrows to stick in my potted plants outside...the plants are long dead. One place I saw had some ghosts on a stick...may get a couple of them to put out for Halloween. The cooler weather has been nice, I think for a week we're supposed to be in the low 80's, then go back down into the 70's. But even in the 80's the breeze seems to be cooler.

I'll go for now,
Take care,
Sheila

Picked a peck of pickled peppers...

I am enjoying this cooler weather we have been having. We had a couple of days of rain, no complaining, we needed it. Little Rylie (dog) is almost as good as new. Everything has healed, her hair that was shaved has to catch up with the rest though. She had an open wound on her side just behind her front leg that took the longest to heal. It was heart shaped. She did lose a front tooth in the battle and she snores a little more now. Her bark is still a little different too.

Hubby is still in pain, he is going to the chiropractor. He has a slipped disk in that area. He has meds from the doctor. I didn't mention it before but our regular doctor passed away on Memorial day. He had just turned 50 on May 4th. Had a heart attack while out riding his bike...we could hardly believe it. Hubby had been to him when he first had problems with his upper back/shoulder, so I called the office yesterday about some meds and the other doctor called him in some.

On another note, before we went to Alabama in August, I picked the cayenne and jalapeno peppers and put up a can of each in jars. After I got back home I picked the cayenne and a couple that were left on the jalapeno and bought some more jalapeno (that may be hotter than mine were) and put up three more jars. The cayenne has a couple of whole and a couple of sliced (lengthwise) jalapeno in it. Then I have a jar of whole jalapenos and a jar of sliced (lengthwise again) jalapeno. I've been eating on the first jar I put up, had some just yesterday and probably will have some today.

Charlie (other dog) is barking in his sleep...ha. I'll go for now, I hope everyone has a great weekend!
Take care,
Sheila

Birthday, bathtub and backs...

This little girl celebrated her 23 birthday on
Saturday, Sept. 14th.
Happy Birthday!!

She wanted cheesecake too, say we decided
to get a round cake this time. We got the chocolate
whipped topping on a chocolate cake. It was good!
We have prettier place mats for the table but these are the ones we eat off of...ha.
 They wipe clean easier...

I guess the excitement of the week was Sunday. Cori had taken a shower upstairs and she couldn't get the shower doors to open but about a foot for her to get out. She did get out and called down for us to fix them. When we moved the door slightly to try to see if one was off the track the other door shattered and broke. Thankfully it was tempered glass and most of it fell into the tub. Let me tell you that is a lot of glass to get up. I'm glad it didn't break while she was in the shower trying to get out. All is well, we got it cleaned up and put a shower curtain up with a liner. I just don't feel comfortable right now putting glass doors back in.

Hubby is home early today. His upper back on his left side has been hurting him all week. He wanted me to make an appointment with a chiropractor to see if that would help. His first time ever trying a chiropractor. I hope it helps.

I put out my few fall decorations in the house yesterday. Changed my candle to the Autumn wood-wick and lit it for a little while. Guess I need to get a pumpkin or two for the porch.

And last but not least I have made it into the 21st century...somewhat anyway. I finally got  smartphone yesterday, an iPhone 5. Now I have to send out my new number, I was still using the one from Alabama. Jarin kept her old number but Cori and I have new numbers.

Hope everyone has a great weekend,
Sheila

Home again...and it's raining...

The girls and I made it back home from Alabama yesterday. We didn't run into any traffic delays, thank goodness. I was only able to see part of the last quarter of the Alabama and VA Tech game... :(  but I did find them on satellite radio so I could at least hear it as we drove home.

We have had a stormy day today. We had one big boom of lightning and Hubby and I went outside on the screened porch to look. We noticed the white lights we have going around the top of the porch have a lot out. They were all working last night.

Sierra and her Granddaddy at the beach.

Wishing everyone a great Labor Day!

Rain, family, beach and did I say rain?

Well, well, well...rain, rain, rain. The girls and I are in Alabama at my Mom and Dad's house. We got here on Aug 2nd. My younger brother and his family got here the 8th. We went down to the beach at Blue Mountain, FL (near Destin) from Aug 12th to the 15th.

This is sweet Sierra Alicia, my new little niece.

I caught her with a smile.

This is the morning of the first full day (Tuesday) at the beach...rainy.

We did a little driving around earlier Tuesday, waiting for Mom and Dad to get there. Jarin and I drove through Seaside, FL and on to Panama City Beach. We stopped at Shuck'ums oyster pub and seafood grill to get me a t-shirt. We got back in time to lead Mom and Dad to the condo.

It wasn't too rainy for the pool...

We had a nice sunny day on Wednesday. This
is the view from our balcony.

And at the beach.
A little seaweed-y...ha.

Brother Shawn and his older two, on the boardwalk to the beach.
(Same little ones in my profile pic)

Shawn's wife's parents flew in to Ft. Walton on the 12th. Our parents came down on Tuesday. Ronnie's wife and some of his kids and grand kids came down for the day on Wednesday. We had a great time. Shawn's family and her parents were flying back to San Antonio on Thursday afternoon. When we left the condo Thursday we drove to Destin first to grab some t-shirts, grab some Starbucks and then head back to Mom's. I had to pick up the dogs from the boarder/groomer. Shawn and them were going to the outlet mall to kill time until their flight.

We all made it home safely...but a few of us ended up with a cold...ha.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend,
Sheila
PS. Yes, it is raining today too. :)

Happy 4th of July!!

We are still here. We haven't washed away in the rain. Hubby did have the birthday I mentioned in the last post.

I finally caught a picture of the illusive hummingbird. I sat outside for quite awhile with camera in hand...no hummingbird...tried again...still no hummingbird. But every time I came in and peeked out the window, there he/she was. Finally I had to settle for a picture through the window.

Two weeks ago, our Chihuahua Rylie was injured badly by the neighbors greyhounds. They were walking them because they had just had a patio poured and couldn't let them out back. Our other neighbor (house on corner) on the other side has a black metal fence, and when I let Rylie out to potty, she saw them in the road and went through both sides of their fence to get to them. By the time I made it around the house they had already hurt her. She was yelping and flopping on the side of the road with a big gash on her back. Thankfully she had no broken bones, they put 16 stitches in her back, 2 on her shoulder and 1 on the puncture wound on her throat. She ended up back at the vet, about a week later, because of infection. The cleaned it up and put in drains (don't know why they didn't do this the first time). She also had a little dead tissue behind her front leg. She stayed at the vets until Tuesday morning. I hope she is able to heal now without any more problems. She goes back for a check-up Monday.

I hope every one has a great 4th of July! We are planning to grill some burgers and hot dogs.
Take care,
Sheila

Time for an update...

Thank you to everyone who said a prayer for my brother Ronnie. For those who don't already know, he passed away on April 1, 2013. He never lost his sense of humor and though we are sad and even a little angry at him having to leave us so soon, I am grateful that he was able to return home and spend his last few days with his family and friends.

Cori and I had a birthday while we were in Alabama...
I'll let you figure out which cake was hers and which was mine.
She got some clothes, purse and money, I got a new laptop
and an Alabama throw (Roll Tide).

Then on May 17th, Hubby and I got to meet and eat with our
fellow blogger handsome Jack (http://shipslog-jack.blogspot.com) and
his beautiful, sweet wife Sherry. We enjoyed it so much, and I hope we get to do it again.

and last, but definitely not least, Hubby and I celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary on May 31st. He's a keeper... :D. He will be celebrating a birthday tomorrow, time to order the cake...

Take care,
Sheila

It's a Boy !!!

Hi, I'm Charlie
I'm a Yorkie
I weigh 3.2 lbs
born to Joe C and Josie on Aug 3, 2012
adopted by my new family on Feb 16, 2013

 First day home.
Hope Rylie doesn't mind me using her bed.
(picture taken with cell, had to lighten it up)
 Asleep on 'Daddy'

Sleeping on the throw between 'Mommy's' legs.
He looks like a hairier Rylie here...ha.
My closeup portrait

I am here, still waiting for that big snow...ha. We had some snow flurries here on the day we went to pick up Charlie. But it was really snowing on the way there and back. So at least I got to see a lot of snow that day, even if it didn't do much here at home. Shirl got more snow, so I guess I'll try the snow boots instead of shoes next time... :)

I couldn't talk Hubby into stopping to watch the snow...ha.

We have been busy since I came home from my Parents. We were on the lookout for a new couch and coffee and end table. Also a table to go between the chairs. We found what we wanted and also got a new stand for the TV in the bonus room.

Jarin hasn't made it home yet. Those who read my Mom's blog know she got rear ended at a light in town. The car is in the shop and she called yesterday to check on it and they haven't even started on it yet. Hopefully it will be ready by the end of this week. It's Cori's car by the way...she's not to concerned as long as it's fixed.

Cori and I have a dental cleaning and check today. I'll have to reschedule Jarin's. I went a couple of weeks ago to get a filling fixed, a little piece had broken off.

Hope everyone is having a good week,
Take care,
Sheila

I asked for snow not sleet...

Well the Christmas stuff is gone from inside the house. After a week of rain and a little snow, I was finally able to get the boxes out of the shed to store the Christmas stuff. We might get a mix of sleet, snow tomorrow. Hoping it's mostly snow...a lot.... : D A girl can dream can't she?

Well I started this on Thursday but had writers block...ha. We got mostly sleet and ice on Friday.

 Jarin's car covered in ice
 walkway from porch
 beside garage

back deck

Oh well, Shirl, we're going to have to snow dance a little harder before our next chance of snow. I must have danced some wrong moves and got sleet instead...ha. I'll practice so I'll be ready for next time.
Lucy, I had to change the snowman background I had previously, for some reason it quit showing up (you didn't have anything to do with it did you?  ha ha :D). Got to enjoy my snowmen while I can, it will be spring before we know it. Maybe next time we can get the snow all the way to Paula, Jack and Mama... :D

Take care,
Sheila

Welcome to 2013...

We are home from our Christmas trip. Cori and I anyway, Hubby has been back awhile and Jarin stayed a little longer. We are having a rainy day today, probably tomorrow and possibly all week. If it would just get cold enough to turn into snow I would be very happy... :-D

Hubby took down the outside decorations while I was gone and put them in the garage (not packed up, just in the garage), we'll probably handle them this weekend. I'll take the inside ones down, but not today. I want to enjoy the lights at least another day. I have to make a grocery run today.  Going to check and see if I can find a ornament box, and see if it will work with what I have. If not, no biggie, I'll just put them back in the cardboard box I had them in. Our other ornaments are in plastic containers, but we bought most of these our first Christmas here because we couldn't get to the ornaments in storage. Luckily we could get to the tree.

Now I'll leave you with a few pictures of the Grand-boys from Christmas at the in-laws.

One night Jarin and Cori actually slept in the same bed. First time in many years, mainly because Jarin had already went to bed and Cori just went and got in. They'd kill me if I showed the pictures I took, but I cropped one to show Rylie peeking out. Shhh, don't tell them...

Take care,
Sheila
